Chidambaram Shaivites Pilgrim Centre
Chidambaram is always referred to as the first of the Tevara Paadal Petra Stalangal and is also regarded as the first of the Tevara Stalangal located on the Northern banks of the river Kaveri in the Chola region of Tamilnadu.
Chidambaram represents tradition over several centuries ago. It is an important pilgrim centre for Shaivites and known for its famous Nataraja temple which was erected in the reign of Vira Chola Raja. This great temple complex (covering an area of 40 acres) is one of Tamil Nadu's Dravidian architectural highlights.
